Ear reshaping surgery is sometimes known as otoplasty, or “ear pinning.” It’s a straight-forward and discrete procedure that can be massively confidence boosting. Prominent ears are set back so they lie closer to the head, but depending upon your wishes, surgery can also be designed to reshape the ears or reduce their size. Depending on your wishes, ear reshaping surgery can set the ears back, reduce your ear size, or reshape certain parts of the ear.
Surgery takes 1-2 hours and you’re in hospital for about half a day.
The procedure can either be performed whilst asleep (general anaesthetic) or awake with the ears numbed (local anaesthetic).
Some skin is removed from behind the ear and the cartilage of your ear is reshaped using stitches, so the ear lies back against your head.
You will have a head bandage around the ears for 1 week afterward.
On removal of the bandages, there is just one stitch to remove from each ear, and then you will be able to see the results immediately.
You can expect to be back to most normal activities within two weeks.
