Ear reshaping surgery is sometimes known as otoplasty, or “ear pinning.” It’s a straight-forward and discrete procedure that can be massively confidence boosting. Prominent ears are set back so they lie closer to the head, but depending upon your wishes, surgery can also be designed to reshape the ears or reduce their size. Some people want just the earlobe reducing and making less prominent.

For people who choose ear reshaping, it’s usually something they’ve been considering for many years. You may have grown up with unwanted comments being made about the shape or size of your ears, and no matter how resilient you may be this eventually can dent confidence and make you self-conscious about your appearance.

Your ears are an important part of your overall facial appearance and become a big factor in the hairstyle you choose. Ear reshaping can therefore be a very liberating and positive change in your life.

Benefits of ear-reshaping surgery:

  • Permanent and immediate improvement in your ear shape
  • Enhance the overall appearance of your face
  • Confidence boost with your new look
  • Wider choice of hairstyles
  • Stop unfriendly comments
  • Quick recovery
  • Discrete surgery and hidden scars
  • Depending on your wishes, ear reshaping surgery can set the ears back, reduce your ear size, or reshape certain parts of the ear.
  • Surgery takes 1-2 hours and you’re in hospital for about half a day.
  • The procedure can either be performed whilst asleep (general anaesthetic) or awake with the ears numbed (local anaesthetic).
  • Some skin is removed from behind the ear and the cartilage of your ear is reshaped using stitches, so the ear lies back against your head.
  • You will have a head bandage around the ears for 1 week afterward.
  • On removal of the bandages, there is just one stitch to remove from each ear, and then you will be able to see the results immediately.
  • You can expect to be back to most normal activities within two weeks.
  • You should see an immediate improvement in your ear shape.
  • The ear should be set back in a natural looking position.
  • The scar is concealed in the natural crease behind the ear.
  • The reshaping is designed to be permanent. Only very occasionally the ear prominence can recur if an internal stitch fails.
  • As in nature, there are always small differences between your ears, but these shouldn’t be obvious.
  • Many people find that after having ear pinning surgery they have increased self-esteem and confidence in their appearance.
