A brow lift, sometimes known as a forehead lift, is a quick and simple procedure that elevates your eyebrows and smoothens-out forehead wrinkle lines. This lifts the area directly above your eyes, opening up the eye area to make your face look younger.

A brow lift procedure is usually combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as upper and lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), facelift and skin resurfacing techniques.

With age the brow droops, wrinkles develop across the forehead and frown lines occur between the eyebrows. Whilst for some men this can make them look “serious” and “distinguished,” for most of us it gives an older, tired look. Sagging of the eyebrows also causes drooping and hooding of the upper eyelid skin.

If you are bothered by these changes, a brow lift may be right for you. It places your the eyebrows back in youthful position, restoring a more alert and fresh appearance, and this can increase your self-confidence.

In severe cases drooping of the brows and upper eyelids can affect vision, and brow lift in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery can be a quick and simple way to rectify the situation.

You may find that you suffer with headaches due to excessive muscle contraction from subconsciously trying to raise your droopy eyebrows. Brow lifts can also help in this respect.

There are many personal reasons why people choose brow lift surgery:

  • Drooping eyebrows giving an older, tired appearance
  • Saggy excess upper eyelid skin, that may form a hood in front of your vision
  • Deep forehead lines and creases
  • Excessive frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Asymmetry and imbalance of the forehead and eyebrows

The benefits of brow lift surgery:

  • Increased overall self-confidence
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Look more youthful and rejuvenated
  • Correct the Asymmetry of the forehead and eyebrows

I perform brow lift under local anaesthetic (awake), or general anaethetic (asleep) if you prefer. The procedure takes about one hour, and you should be able to go home from hospital the same day (day-case surgery).

There is a single short scar on each side, above the temple, hidden just behind the hair-line. Excess skin is removed and stitches are placed to tighten the tissues and raise the position of your eyebrows. I’ll consult you during the procedure using a mirror so you can see the result, to check exactly how far you want it lifted and adjusting the tightness of the stitches accordingly. This ensures you get precisely the lift you want.

There may be some tenderness around the incision point, but recovery is quick, and you can expect to return to work or social activities almost immediately. The stitches in your scalp are dissolving sutures so they don’t need removing.

This short scar technique has the advantage over endoscopic, Endotine or open coronal brow lift because it is quicker, safer, it can be performed under local anaesthetic and there is no need to stay overnight in hospital. The lift is more precise and adjustable. Because you can check and amend the result yourself during the procedure, it’s possible to make very specific adjustments to the lift according to your wishes. There is little scarring and less downtime after surgery. Furthermore the cost is approximately half that of the other techniques.

The results of your brow lift surgery are immediately visible, revealing smoother forehead skin and a more youthful, rested appearance.

Surgery will give a long lasting improvement, but the eyebrow will slowly descend with gravity over time in the normal way. Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing sun damage. A healthy lifestyle will also help extend the results of your surgery.

The resulting short scars are well concealed within the hair. They will also fade over three to six months.
