Thigh lift surgery lifts and tightens the skin of the inner and outer thigh regions. Sagging excess skin is removed, often with some liposuction to reshape and firm the upper legs, leaving your thigh area tight and smooth. This can give you back the body confidence you deserve.

It may be something that runs in your family, but may people find they gradually lose tone in their thighs and the skin begins to droop. Other people are left with sagging baggy thigh skin after losing weight. Regardless, the loose skin is unlikely to improve with diet or exercise alone, so thigh lift surgery is needed to restore your thigh shape and definition. Surgery gives a more youthful the contour to your legs and can have slimming effect on your figure overall.

There are many personal reasons why people choose thigh lift surgery:

  • To make your figure more in proportion
  • To give a more youthful appearance to your thigh skin
  • To improve the shape and contour of your legs when you’re wearing trousers or tight dresses
  • So you’ll no longer need to cover-up your legs or feel self-conscious about them
  • To gain the confidence to wear summer clothing, swimwear and underwear proudly
  • So you can wear a greater variety of clothes, which makes clothes buying much more enjoyable
  • It can help restore self-esteem
  • It’s easier to move and exercise
  • For improved skin hygiene
  • Thigh lift is perfomed under general anaesthetic (asleep) and takes between two and three hours. You should be able to go home the same day, or stay in hospital overnight if you prefer.
  • The procedure removes the excess skin and fatty tissue from the inner thigh and around the top of the thigh (near the groin). The underlying supportive tissues are then lifted, tightened and reshaped with internal sutures. Liposuction is sometimes performed also to smooth the contour of the thighs.
  • Afterwards there will be dressings over the operation site, and occasionally there is a small drainage tube that is removed after one day.
  • You will need to wear and elasticated compression garment, like cycling shorts, to cover your thighs for 6 weeks after the operation.
  • Many patients describe tightness in their thighs, but any discomfort after surgery should be easily controlled with simple analgesia like Paracetamol.
  • Any swelling and bruising will go down over 2-3 weeks after surgery. Numbness and a firm feeling over the skin’s surface will also resolve over time.
  • The operation site will be checked in clinic 1 week after surgery. Most of the stitches are absorbable, and any non-absorbable stitches will be removed after 1-2 weeks.
  • You’ll be ready to return to work and light activities after 1-2 weeks, but avoid strenuous activity which may stretch the scars for up to six weeks afterwards.

The improved and more youthful contour of your thighs should be immediately apparent. The skin of your inner and outer thigh regions will be lifted, tightened and much smoother.

The scars are well disguised along the inner thigh and in natural creases of the groin, and these scars will soften and fade over time.

The excess skin is permanently removed, and results are long-lasting, However, whilst your figure is remains improved, it doesn’t completely stop the gradual ageing and loosening of our skin that affects us all. Also, if you put on a lot of weight it may undo some of the good that surgery has achieved.
